Red Bull is best known as the world’s most popular energy drink, but their Red Bull TV brand has positioned them as a global digital media provider, tailored to the high energy and adventurous spirit associated with their drink brand.
When we started collaborating in 2015, Red Bull was ready to upgrade their iOS and Android applications, build their first Android TV and Amazon Fire TV apps, and transition their Apple TV app from TVML to a fully native tvOS experience. Additionally, they were redesigning all of their digital initiatives to make them more consistent across platforms. They chose Mercury thanks to our reputation for high-quality work, recommendations from each of the major mobile platforms, as well as prior experience with other high‑profile video brands, such as TED and Comcast.
Our developers, designers, and project managers work with Red Bull TV’s product team daily to review product needs and any issues that arise, with the goal to maintain a great experience that supports ever‑evolving platforms, user demands, and company directives. We’ve developed apps for Android phone and tablet, iPhone and iPad, as well as 10‑foot experiences for Apple TV, Android TV, and Amazon Fire TV.

From heart-pounding first descents of feisty rivers to the sweat-soaked light shows of popular music festivals, the Red Bull TV app brings you the world’s best in active entertainment. Discover new artists, experience exclusive interviews, and spend time with pro athletes on the top of their game—whether that’s from a mountain summit or the crest of an enormous ocean wave.
The app also hosts content from sports events, TV shows, GoPro clips, and live events, including live music festivals like Lollapalooza. Regardless of whether you’re watching it on a mobile device or Android or Apple TV, users are treated to an exceptional RBTV experience. And if you don’t know what you’re in the mood for, the app has a linear stream that allows you to view content right away.
Red Bull’s internal team has redesigned the app’s API layer on multiple occasions, requiring application refactoring.
Because of Red Bull’s cutting-edge vision, they are constantly looking to add new technology solutions to their apps. From being a launch partner for Google Play Instant apps to supporting an immersive AR experience for their live Red Bull Rampage event, Mercury frequently serves as early adopters of new technology on Red Bull’s behalf.
Red Bull TV is an app Apple and Google are proud to have associated with their platforms, and they are constantly looking for new ways to promote it. While this offers many marketing benefits, it can translate to stringent deadlines that can present challenges to less experienced teams.
“This year’s winner has completely updated UI to provide a fresh, best‑in‑class TV user experience. Using simple controls and beautiful designs, they give users a content-rich offering with high‑quality live and on‑demand content.”
